Dunns River Falls, perhaps the most famous of Jamaica's attractions, is just west of Ocho Rios. The Falls drop 600 feet to the seacoast in a series of cascades. The waterfalls gush from cliffs along a ridge and is described as a living and growing phenomenon as it continuously regenerates itself from deposits of travertine rock.
Dunn's River Falls Park is undergoing phased upgrading and boasts modern facilities, including terracing and decks to allow one to enjoy the scenic views.
Traditionally, visitors climb the waterfalls. This can be done with or without an official guide - once you purchase a ticket. It's common to see groups form a human chain as they scale this natural wonder. Take the climb slowly and check your footing (appropriate footwear is recommended). If you find the climb nerve racking part way up, there are spots along the way to exit onto dry land.
